As we process trauma through the mind, we also have to process it through the body. Our nervous system is wired like branches of a tree. And when we experience stress or a traumatic event, those branches can get pruned.
After battling PTSD for many years, Lindsey went to counseling. But it wasn't making her "whole." It felt like something was missing. And that's when Lindsey learned that she needed to process the trauma in her body.
After digging into the research and trying anything that would help, Lindsey finally figured out the "Map" that worked for her.
Using the breath as her guide, she uses yoga, meditation, and movement techniques to help process the trauma in her mind through her body.
Currently, there is no comprehensive online program that allows survivors of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) to come together and address their needs in a wholistic fashion.
This protocol aims to change that, as we build a national platform for Service Members and Veterans across the globe.
With the benefits of Therapuetic Yoga being used with Lindsey's clients and throughout the VA, Lindsey has taken her skills on the road and into the prison system! Participants get an opportunity to learn how to regualte their emotions, calm the mind, and learn tools to better manage the daily stressors of life.
At Sanford Yoga & Community Center, Lindsey and her staff offer inclusive and trauma informed classes to the community to help others find their way. She also hosts an annual Yoga Fest and other fundraising events to help support local non-profits.
If there are three things that Lindsey thinks that everyone should know when beginning to process trauma in their bodies, this would be it.
